Connecticut Department of Homeland Security Region 1 Field Day Exercise
Worked in conjunction with Higgins Corporation on September 25, 2016

Overview

On September 25, 2016, Salamander teamed up with Higgins Corporation to support the Connecticut Department of Homeland Security Region 1 with their Regional Field Day Exercise on the shores of Long Island Sound at Sherwood Island State Park. This exercise showcased regional emergency preparedness and the assets available to be shared across its 14 towns.

Solution

Event check-in was accomplished using a combination of (2) RAPID TAG stations, along with multiple 02 TRACK APPs. First responders who were pre-credentialed using SalamanderLiveTM quickly checked-in using the 02 TRACK APP. Visitors and non-credentialed first responders were tagged and assigned via RAPID TAG.

As participants and observers moved throughout the event, they were quickly scanned into assignments using Salamander’s 02 TRACK App. The apps were being operated by members of the Region 1 Incident Management Team, who were provided just-in-time training immediately prior to the event.

All of the data captured via the 02 TRACK APP and RAPID TAG stations was sent into Salamander’s COMMAND software in real time, which was running the Fairfield County Hazardous Materials Team’s Mobile Command Center. Additionally, for a portion of the event, there was a second COMMAND station running in the Connecticut Region 1 Incident Management Team’s Temporary Command Center.

Outcome

At the conclusion of the event and after all personnel had been demobilized, Region 1 DHS personnel were able to run detailed reports on personnel activity by utilizing SalamanderLive. During this event, the Intelligent AccountabilityTM suite was used to provide situational awareness and a common operating picture in tracking the activity of 343 first responders and observers.
